The Association is pleased to congratulate Dr Dympna Kavanagh on her appointment as Chief Dental Officer.
Dr Kavanagh is being seconded on a part-time basis from her position as HSE National Oral Health Lead, a post she has held since 2011.
A graduate of University College Cork Dental School, Dr Kavanagh was formerly HSE Principal Dental Surgeon for the Limerick/North Tipperary area. She is a Tipperary native and holds a PhD in Preventive and Paediatric Dentistry. Following graduation, she completed her training in dental public health in Guys Hospital, King’s College, London. She then worked across several health authorities, before returning to Ireland in 2001 to take up a post with the Mid Western Health Board. She took up the post of Principal Dental Surgeon for the Limerick/North Tipperary area in 2003. In recent years Dr Kavanagh also worked in HSE Corporate for the Quality and Risk section of the former Primary, Community and Continuing Care Directorate.
These are challenging times for the health services in Ireland and for the profession of dentistry. The Association hopes to have an early meeting with Dr Kavanagh to discuss members’ concerns and priorities at this critical juncture in restoring oral health to the nation.
